Pro-Cut's PFM900 SmartLathe Named a 'Top 20 Tool'

Computerized on-car brake lathe among industry's best for 1998

September 1, 1998

The Pro-Cut PFM900 computerized on-car brake lathe was named a Top 20 Tool by Motor Magazine. The announcement was made in their September 1998 issue.

The editors of Motor Magazine, who annually select the 20 "best of the best" pieces of newly introduced shop equipment from "hundreds of entries" were impressed by the concept of a hub mounted lathe that was simple to use. "Wouldn't it be great if someone made a hub-mounted lathe that could automatically compensate for runout?" they asked, before acknowledging the features of Pro-Cut's PFM900 SmartLathe.

"Winning a Top 20 Tool award tops off what has been a very exciting development process," said Pro-Cut's national sales director Dwight O'Hara, "we sensed from the ouset that this could be a product that would change the way people view brake work. It seems the editors of Motor Magazine agree."

The PFM900 has simplified the process of machining rotors on-car. Traditional on-car lathes require the tech to make sensitive adjustments to compensate for runout in the hub. The PFM900 uses patent pending technology to make these adjustments with a push of a button. A motion sensing device mounted inside the lathe body measures any run-out and passes a signal to the lathe's computer. The signal is translated and commands are sent to an adjusting apparatus that compensates for run-out while the lathe is running. The entire process takes less than 60 seconds. Mounting, adjustment and cut cycle can be completed in less than ten minutes.

Pro-Cut International Ltd., LLC markets a growing range of proprietary brake repair tools including the patented Discus rotor measuring system and the Pro-Cut series of on-car brake lathes. The company is located in West Lebanon, NH.
