PRO-CUT PFM 9.2 ON-VEHICLE BRAKE LATHE WINS "ESSENTIAL TOOL" DESIGNATION FROM G.M

WEST LEBANON, NH, December 1, 2003– The Pro-Cut PFM 9.2 Auto-Compensating On-Vehicle Brake Lathe has been named an "Essential Tool" for all General Motors dealers selling the new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks.
The Pro-Cut PFM 9.2 performs brake rotor turning on the vehicle itself. It is uniquely suited to work on the new "captured rotor" brake systems employed on both Colorado and Canyon.
The "Essential Tool" designation means that all G.M. Tier 1 through Tier 4 dealers who do not already have an automatic compensating on-car brake lathe are required to have the PFM 9.2 in their shops. Smaller Tier 5 dealers will be required to subcontract rotor turning on the Colorado and Canyon to facilities with the required equipment on hand.
The Canyon and Colorado trucks are being introduced in late 2003. Pro-Cut has already begun shipment of the PFM 9.2 to dealers.

Both Chevy's Colorado and the GMC Canyon use a "captured rotor" design. In this configuration, the brake rotor is mounted to the back of the wheel hub with separate fasteners, instead of to the front of the hub with the wheel studs. Removing the rotor from the vehicle requires removing the entire hub/bearing assembly, and the "captured" rotor is difficult to mount on a conventional off-vehicle lathe. G.M. has accordingly specified on-vehicle rotor turning for these vehicles.
